Virgin & Child ∞ (2017)

The Planetary Portraits series is a special collection, where the masterworks act as "spacecraft" inviting me to travel through outer space. The awe I felt when I first saw photographs of the Moon and Mars was akin to my first encounter with famous paintings—both moments filled with profound wonder. Humanity’s cultural achievements and technological advancements embody both rational understanding and emotional imagination of the universe. This realization led me to associate the evolution of the cosmos with countless moments of astonishment. Since that is the case, why not take it a step further and transcend these boundaries? Starting in 2015, I began combining these two sources of awe—melding images of space and masterpieces of art into one frame. The collision of these two kinds of imagery results in visual effects that are absurd, chaotic, and theatrical, yet simultaneously solemn, magical, surreal, and hyperreal. This interplay may best capture the visual allure of images—mysterious, confined, crudely violent yet full of deception and illusion. Of course, this does not entirely summarize the emotions my work conveys to audiences. After all, "seeing is believing," but you will naturally take something different from it based on your perspective.
