Jiabing Egbert Chen陈嘉兵

CH1 (1987)

Blending traditional Chinese ink painting techniques with his unconventional, whimsical style,  Jiabing playfully adapted these classical methods to create expressive, figurative works.  “CH 1” is part of his "I Am Not Talking" series, showcasing his unique approach to merging tradition with personal expression. While pursuing his MFA in Chinese ink painting at the Sichuan Fine Arts Institute, Jiabing captured the essence of a bygone era, imbuing his works with both cultural heritage and introspective expressions. 

Now featured in Ordinary Magic, this painting offers a nostalgic yet intriguing glimpse into the leisurely life in Chongqing, China in the 1980s, when Chinese contemporary art was just opening up to and letting in the outside world.

The playful brushstrokes in Jiabing’s bring to life a cloudy day on the farm, filled with charming details, inviting viewers to ponder and get lost in time and place.

About the artist:

Born in 1968, obtained his BFA at at Sichuan Fine Arts Institute in 1987, specializing in Chinese ink painting in the Department of Fine Arts.

Currently based in Chengdu China, New York and Los Angeles, working in international architecture and interior design.
