Goo Lagoon (February 2024)
This artwork depicts fish-like humanoid figures gathered around a dinner table in an underwater setting. The luminous green and yellow tones create an ethereal and unsettling atmosphere. At the center of the table floats a glowing object, evoking themes of creation, fragility, or shared mystery. The piece invites reflection on the interplay between species, environments, and the nature of existence

About the artist:
Painter, Animator, Student
Ciara Sergi is a Brooklyn based painter and stop motion animator currently obtaining her BFA in painting at Pratt Institute. Her interests include painting in a way that exudes a story, using color, subject, and different mediums to bring painting to life. Through the use of playful colors and smooth, sort of fuzzy blending, she aims to attract a viewer into a world where cute and strange are indecipherable from one another. Her subject matter includes habitants of a world plagued by some sort of toxic aquatic overgrowth and the scenes they live in, often portraying her characters with bulging eyes that stare down the viewer in a way that makes them feel as though they are intruding on a mundane scene of their lives. She has been exploring the medium of stop motion animation as a method of bringing out the world building that goes into her paintings. Stop motion serves as a way to expand past the bounds of the canvas.
