About the artist:

Ran Pang’s recent studio practice focuses on abstraction through observation. Drawing from the history of Western art and influences from Chinese culture, Pang’s practice incorporates Eastern media such as pine soot ink and rice paper into dynamic, colorful compositions that reference the history of abstract painting. In the past five years, Pang's edible sculptures have received wide attention and have been exposed nationally and internationally. He is interested in utilizing food ingredients such as sugar and chocolate to create exquisite sculptural forms that reshape the viewer's perception of these often-overlooked materials. His exploration of materials and artistic expression has led him to win consecutively three international competitions at the National Exhibition Centre in London. Pang’s work experience array from lecturer, critic, institutional communication associate, and summer art program coordinator. He currently works as a teaching assistant at RISD.
